- "Whoa, look over there! They’re growing."
I see tea plants in the distance.
Suddenly, new tea shoots sprout and surge upward—growing by about 10% of their current size right before my eyes.
Nearby, bonsai trees and small pines
also expand in size by roughly 10% all at once.
My friend and I watch this happen.
The time is 1:09 AM—deep into the night. Do they grow at this hour?
I find it fascinating.
I look around and realize—this is a temple.
We are in the temple courtyard,
observing the trees as they grow rapidly.
...
It is morning. It seems I am staying in some kind of lodging.
A man who shared the room with me is getting dressed.
He puts on a top made of denim-like material.
It turns out he wasn't just resting; he possesses some remarkable ability or skill,
and now he is heading off to his workplace to put that talent to use.
His wife, who was also in the room, gets dressed and heads outside with him.
Come to think of it, I’ve been sleeping in the same room as them for a while now.
- "Are they exercising upstairs?"
the man asks as he leaves. It seems there’s a bit of a commotion coming from the second floor.
After they leave, I remain lying in the room.
I can hear people talking outside the window.
- "Why make such a fuss over just one water deer?"
- "Well, it’s a matter of how you handle it—you could just divide it up..."
I lie there, listening to their conversation. These people seem to be the occupants of the rooms next to where I sleep.
I turn my head toward the window and see people passing by.
It becomes clear who caused the trouble.
I can also see the faces of the people living in the adjacent rooms.
They are dressed plainly, much like typical tenants in a rented place.
My gaze shifts past the room and out toward the courtyard on the right.
I see the face of a young girl who lives next door.
She is wearing glasses adorned with jewels—large, sunglass-style lenses rimmed with gems.
I begin walking back toward the room where I sleep.
“I live on the first floor—the first floor.”
“Not the second?”
When a middle-aged woman asks where I live, I tell her loudly that I live on the first floor.
She asks again if it’s the second floor, but I repeat, “The first floor!” and head toward the building without looking back.
I enter the building on the left.
Inside, the room is tidily arranged.
It’s set up in a traditional floor-seating style, with a wide, low table;
people are sitting around it, facing forward.
The atmosphere is like that of a Buddhist temple.
I walk through the room and head further inside.
Toward the back, there appears to be a kitchen, where people are preparing and serving food.
“As expected, they’re quite the talented one,”
one child remarks to another.
First, a teenage girl brings back some food on a plate,
followed by two friends carrying more food and side dishes.
They sit down at a sturdy, old-fashioned table—
a table crafted from a thick, solid log—
ready to have their meal. This room seems to be used as a dining room.
